The Composition and Origin of the Striped Amphibolites of Connemara, Ireland

BERNARD W. EVANS and BERNARD E. LEAKE

Department of Geology and Mineralogy Oxford
Department of Geology Bristol, England

ABSTRACT

Major- and trace-element analyses, accompanied by modal analyses and mineralogical data, are given for thirty-three striped amphibolites from Connemara. It is concluded that prior to metamorphism these rocks were intrusions, lavas or tuffs of sodic basalt composition.
